Agencies, whether public sector or private sector, may have to pay goods and services tax on the charges they collect on behalf of the government from clients. The authority for advance rulings (AAR), Telangana, has ruled that e-procurement transaction fee collected by an agency on behalf of the government is chargeable to GST, said Rajat Mohan, senior partner at AMRG & Associates. The AAR also ruled that neither services provided by the agency to the government, nor services provided on behalf of the government to the business entities are exempt from GST, he informed about the case.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has commissioned a quality check on MDH and Everest products. This follows complaints that several popular spice mixes of the two leading brands contained traces of ethylene oxide more than the permissible levels, official sources said. This move by FSSAI comes after Hong Kong and Singapore recalled variants of the two masala majors' products in their countries.

The TTC survey collected data from 41 companies out of the 100 which belong to S&P CNX Nifty and CNX Nifty Junior list. These firms have a total turnover and market capitalisation of Rs 6,84,404 crore and Rs 10,718,84 crore respectively. The survey identified a total of 23 taxes at central and state level -- both business taxes paid and collected by a company. Of 41 companies, 16 were from manufacturing sector, 8 from financial sector, 5 from IT and 12 from other sectors.
